Some Issues in the Seismic Assessment of Shear-Wall Buildings through Code-Compliant Dynamic Analyses

چکیده
Due to their excellent seismic behavior, shear wall-type concrete buildings are very popular in earthquake-prone countries like Chile. According current regulations, the performance of such structures can be indifferently assessed through linear or non-linear methods analysis. Although all code-compliant approaches supposedly lead a safe design, may fact less precise for catching actual ductile and dissipative structures, which even result unconservative design where comparatively stiff reinforced-concrete shear-wall (RC-SW) concerned. By referring mid-rise multistory RC-SW building built Chile designed according Chilean code, paper investigates effectiveness dynamic analyses predict kind structures. The findings show that (Modal Response Spectrum Analysis Linear Time-History Analysis) significantly underestimate displacement demand buildings. This is highlighted by comparison with results obtained from Non-Linear Analysis, expected give more realistic results. A set ten spectrum-consistent earthquakes was considered carry out time-history while distributed-plasticity fiber-based approach adopted model behavior building. highlights how risk an unsafe become higher when reference made latter considering only Modal (MRSA) without providing corrective factors estimate inelastic demand. checks some amplifying taken literature case-study building, concluding they not effective enough. also warns against danger local soft-story collapse mechanisms, typical reinforced frames but affect weaker structural parts column-like walls present at ground floor.

Effect of seismic sequences on fragility of Iranian code-conforming shear wall RC buildings
Background and objective: Estimating the vulnerability rate of urban textures in seismic incident following a major earthquake (aftershocks) is crucial in decision making and crisis management. For this purpose, it is necessary to calculate the vulnerability of buildings due to the successive incidents and to use them in the vulnerability estimation for probable future aftershocks. Seismic frag...

the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...
Seismic Fragility Assessment of RC Frame-Shear Wall Structures Designed According to the Current Chinese Seismic Design Code
After learning from several devastating earthquakes in China in recent years, stricter design criteria have been introduced in the current Chinese seismic design code. To investigate the reliability of the current seismic design code, seismic fragility analyses were performed for 45 10-story reinforced concrete (RC) frame-shear wall structures designed according to the current Chinese seismic d...
متن کاملSeismic fragility assessment of RC moment resisting frame buildings designed for different editions of Iranian seismic design code
Background and objective: Developing fragility and vulnerability functions are important tools in seismic reliability assessment of buildings and are widely used in regional seismic risk studies. To date sufficient studies for developing analytical fragility functions for Iranian code-conforming buildings have not been carried out. Performing such studies are necessary to assess the adequacy of...
متن کاملSimplified Method for the Seismic Design of Low-Rise, Shear Wall Base- Isolated Buildings
A simplified method for the seismic design of low-rise, base-isolated shear wall structures is proposed in MOC-2012. This simplified method is basically a hybrid method, where the design of the isolation system is a simpler version for the static method available in US guidelines for the design of base-isolated structures and the design of the superstructure essentially is an improved version o...
